We held a mock election in our class today.  What a great way to learn about this country's electoral process. Th

Well school is just right around the corner and I am so excited.  I am looking forward to a great year.  I can't wait to begin with some great ideas that I have and I know the students are going to be great.

Parents, please send a two liter bottle to school with you child by Friday.  We will be creating rockets.  Your child may decorate it ahead of time.  We can't wait to see how high they go.  Keep checking for picture of our flying rockets.

Parent/Teacher Conferences are on Tuesday April 10th from 1:00-6:00  I have sent home a schedule with your child.  If you are unable to attend the time scheduled please let me know and we can schedule for another time, day or telephone conference.  I have decided to change the next  book we will read to Because of Winn Dixie by Kate Dicamillo.   Because of Winn Dixie tells the story of ten-year old Opal who just moved to Naomi, Florida with her preacher father.  At the grocery store Opal finds a large, ugly, homeless dog. She is  immediately attached to the dog whom she names Winn Dixie after the store where she finds him.

I also want to say what a great time we had on our field trip.  I was also very proud of the knowledge that was shown by 3C.  We had studied Sarcosuchus Imperator (Super Croc) , Crocodillians, and their differences and similarities. They really knew the information that our docent at the museum was discussing and didn't have any difficulties discussing it with her.   I was very impressed with them.

Parents STAAR is right around the corner.  Please review the reading passage homework with your child.  It is very important that homework is completed and reviewed.  Multiplication needs to be practiced daily.   If your child is an avid reader then they will  not have a problem with the math STAAR.  Please encourage your child to read or read to them nightly.  Ask some questions about what you are reading and the love will grwo from there.  We just finished reading How to Steal a Dog by Barbara O'Connor last week.  We have begun Spud Murphy.  These are the books that I gave them for Christmas, so if it is sitting at home; send it with your child so they can read along.  We will begin reading Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech in April.  I will encourage you to pick up a copy or check it out at the library for your child so they can read along and even read ahead.

We are working hard on following procedures for third grade.  It is a little difficult, but we will get there.
Homework will be sent home everyday.  Homework consists of Math and Spelling. Please check your child's homework log everyday.  Monday September 5th is Labor Day.  You know what that means....no school.

Today is Burleson's Open House.  See you there!  5:30-7:30
